Artificial Intelligence (AI) is one of the most talked about topics today. Its impact on
industries is already significant, and it’s only set to grow. But as AI becomes more
integrated into our lives and work, we decided to explore a light-hearted yet
meaningful question: how safe are our jobs in the face of this technology?
To put this to the test, we asked AI to review a real code case: AUTH/3820/9/23 – Complainant v Daiichi Sankyo (The first AI Code case from the PMCPA).
The results? While AI made a valiant attempt, we can confidently say our jobs appear to be safe for the foreseeable future.
Here are the key themes the AI identified in the case:
Consent Must Be Clear
Transparency Builds Trust
AI Raises Privacy Risks
Perception Impacts Reputation
Regulations Need Updating
The AI concluded with this summary:
“This case underscores the need for clear consent, robust data protocols, and transparency when using AI in Pharma. Perceptions of covert activity highlight trust
risks, despite compliance. It reveals a regulatory gap, stressing the importance of
aligning innovation with ethics.”
While this analysis is insightful, it missed a crucial element: the ethical debate at the heart of the complaint. The AI struggled to grasp the human story behind the case, unable to "read between the lines. "Understanding such nuances and human context remains a distinctly human skill for now.
Although this exercise was purely for fun, it’s fascinating to glimpse what AI can already achieve and where it still falls short. As industry insiders we’re really excited to see how companies and agencies continue to innovate in this space, and we eagerly await more guidance from the PMCPA on the responsible use of AI in compliance.
Let’s Continue the Conversation
This case will be a covered in detail in our upcoming Quarterly Code updates,
where we’ll explore its implications and discuss other important cases. If your company is already signed up, we look forward to seeing you and diving into this lively debate.
